Post Operative Instructions

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO YOUR SURGERY SO YOU WILL BE BETTER PREPARED AS TO WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Following Body Sculpture (Pure Lipo)  procedure, you will have leakage from the cannula sites for a period of about 24-36 hours.  This is normal.  However, you should put plastic down and towels, anywhere you may sit or lie, so you do not leak this fluid all over your furniture or bedding.  For the first 24 hours, it may be best to confine yourself to a room in your house so you don not leak the tumescent solution everywhere.  You should prepare your areas where you will be sleeping and sitting prior to your surgery, so that everything will be ready for you upon your return home from your procedure.
  • We have found that most patients do not require prescription pain medication.  There is some discomfort following Body Sculpture (Pure Lipo) procedure, but not real pain. Most patients manage well enough with Extra Strength Tylenol.  It is best that you do not take medication containing aspirin.  If you feel that you have a low pain threshold and feel you will need a stronger medication for pain, please let the Dr. know so that he can give you a prescription for pain medication prior to leaving the office.  You will not routinely be given a prescription pain medication unless you request it.
  • Antibiotics are not usually necessary following Body Sculpture (Pure Lipo) procedure, and  will not be given to you unless you have a medical condition such as diabetes, valvular heart disease, etc, where it may be indicated.  Please let the doctor know if you have any special medical conditions.
  • The day after your procedure you are to remove all dressings and bandages and take a shower (unless you have been instructed otherwise by the doctor).  You should wait about 24 hours after your procedure before taking your shower.
  • You only need to rebandage the area of the cannula sites if they are still leaking. Otherwise you do not have to cover them up. It is best if you have some 4 by 4 gauze bandages and paper tape at home in case you have to rebandage your cannula sites. These items should be purchased prior to your surgery date so you will have them at home in case you need them.  You can buy these items at a pharmacy.  Usually the leaking will stop in about 24-36 hours on most patients.
  • Do not lift heavy objects.
  • No exercise is permitted until the doctor has examined you at your first post-op visit. Then you may do low impact exercise until the soreness goes away, or unless the doctor advises you differently.
  • Do not expose the cannula sites to direct sunlight for about 3-4 weeks.
  • Please call our office for any other questions or concerns.
  • You will follow-up with the doctor for a post-operative visit usually about 3-5 days following your procedure. Prior to leaving the office from your surgery, you will be given a post-op appointment. It is important that you follow-up with the doctor as scheduled.
  • Watch the cannula sites for any signs of infection, such as redness, inflammation or drainage. If you have any of these symptoms or severe pain, please contact our office immediately.
  • You will be swollen after you Body Sculpture (Pure Lipo) procedure. This is normal. It will take anywhere from about 3-6 weeks for most of your swelling to resolve.  Remember the final result from the Body Sculpture (Pure Lipo)  is not apparent until about 3-4 months after your procedure.  Every patient heals differently. It is important that after your surgery you follow a healthy diet and exercise plan in order to maximize your results.
  • It is very important that you wear your post-surgical garment as instructed. This is essential for proper healing following your procedure. Most patients are instructed to wear the garment for one month following their surgery.  Unless the doctor tells you otherwise. Please wear your garment instructed.
